Simple Skin Smoothing Technique in Photoshop – In Four Easy Steps

Photoshop Tips- Skin Smoothing Technique

More often than not, clients ask the dreaded question…. “Can you photoshop that?”

Sometimes clients tend to think we can work miracles with our photoshop skills.  With just four simple steps, you CAN work wonders on skin smoothing. We absolutely love the Portraiture plug-in from Imagenomic.  It’s simple, easy, and can be used on newborns, kids, seniors, brides – the list goes on. It’s not cheap ($199) – but given how much time it will save you in Photoshop smoothing out skin, it’s well worth the investment.

Here’s how we recommend using it:

  1. Open your image in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, whichever you prefer.  Once open, create a duplicate layer of the image.
  2. Run the Portraiture Plug-in. Adjust the settings to your liking – using the preview box to see the changes. Select ‘OK’.
  3. Reduce the opacity of the Portraiture layer to your liking.  Sometimes we find it to still be a little strong and ‘fake’ looking.  Keep it realistic.
  4. Select either the Erase or Brush tool (if you select the Brush tool, be sure to create a mask for the Portraiture layer first).  Then, erase over the parts of the image that you want to maintain detail – like the eyes, mouth, hair, etc.

Simple as can be.  You’ll love this time saver – and so will your clients!
