Feature Friday – Elephant Juice Photography

Tell us a little about yourself!

Hey, I’m Laura! I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart for almost 18 years. I’m a boy mama to Barrett (12), and Abram (7). I’m mostly an introvert, and love folk music, all things boho and floral, earth tones, and Summer vacations to the mountains!

What do you specialize in? What made you want to focus on that specialty/specialties?

I specialize in family and motherhood photography. Over the year, I have literally tried it all, but my heart is certainly most drawn to capturing the love of families, and the bond of motherhood.

How did you first get started in photography?

My degree is in Interior Design, from Kansas State University. I commuted to work in a bigger city as a designer for 4-5 years, then I took a job as the Executive Director at a non-profit Arts & Humanities in my hometown. As much as I loved that job, once my oldest son was born in 2008, I knew I wanted to stay home with him. It was a scary decision to just quit my job, with no other plan for income. But my husband supported me, and I’m so glad I took that leap, because it lead me to finding photography. I dove into in it 2009, and have never looked back!
How has using Iris impacted your business?
I’ve been using Iris for about a year and a half now, and is has certainly been a game changer for my business. Before having this amazing client management system, my client records and correspondences were all over the place! It’s been so nice to have an organized system, and it saves me so much time! It’s nice to know everything I send out to my clients looks polished and professional.
What are your future goals for your business? What are you looking forward to?
My future goals for the next couple years are to completely focus on only family and motherhood sessions. I’m still taking on some seniors, newborns and even weddings…but my heart is just not in those things any longer.  I’d also love to be able to travel more for sessions, and begin some one-on-one mentoring.  I also plan to continue my annual Photography Retreats-Sharing the Journey Retreats, with my friend and business partner. We host 1-2 retreats each year, and have some big plans for the future.

Fun facts:
  • I have a 1976 Golden Nugget camper that my husband and I completely gutted and renovated.
  • I listen to true crime podcasts while I edit
  • In May I started a side-hustle with my husband and two other couples. We are converting a horse trailer into a mobile bar + beverage service for weddings and events!
  • I could live off chips and salsa
