Feature Friday: Photography by Meg Miller

Meet Photography by Meg Miller!

Tell us a little about yourself!

Hi, I’m Meg – owner of Photography by Meg Miller! I live with my husband, our three kiddos, and two dogs in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Our days are full and filled with typical kid activities, coffee, great friends and lots of laughter. The  saying ’the days are long, but the years are short’ is pretty much our theme!

While my husband was in school, we lived in Indianapolis where I worked as an ESL (English as a Second Language) preschool teacher. My students and their families were the absolute best!  We really did learn about language and culture together!

After the birth of our first son, I left teaching and started staying home. I revisited photography as a way to capture our ever changing family, but also as a creative outlet.

When my husband finished school, we moved to his hometown of Fort Wayne. I was lucky enough to find a wonderful group of friends who gave me a few, not so subtle, nudges to pursue photography as a business. From there, things really have happened very organically. It has been a wonderful way of connecting with amazing families in our community. And I have to say that those same friends who nudged me are still some of my biggest cheerleaders today!

What do you specialize in? What made you want to focus on that specialty/specialties?

I specialize in family and children’s photography. Outdoor, evening sessions full of soft light and belly laughs make my heart happy.

One of my favorite parts of working with children and families is the relationships-both theirs AND the relationships that I build with their family. Watching a family interact, tell jokes, giggle, play, and soak up one another really is a privilege. I love capturing those details and then sharing them. That’s what I hope a family can do as they look through their gallery-see the beauty in their own family’s story.  I really do consider myself very blessed to be trusted with these memories.

How has using Iris impacted your business?

I need to start by saying that I am not a salesman. I find it really hard to get behind products that I don’t truly believe in.

Iris is easy to stand behind!  From the workflows to the professional emails and invoices….. it makes me look and feel SO much more organized. In turn, it allows me to focus on my clients and business.

My clients love Iris, too!  They love having emails, contracts, and releases all in one spot!

My hands down favorite thing about Iris is the customer service. There is a whole team behind you, wanting you to succeed. They are quick to answer questions and trouble shoot if there is ever a need.

What are your future goals for you business? What are you looking forward to?

I love where family photography is right now. There is such value placed on capturing relationships and the details that make each family unique. I hope to continue being able to do this and to continue to work with children and families. They really feed my soul.

I also have a small building on a beautiful acre that is waiting for me. It needs a little TLC, but I cannot wait to turn it into a studio. The possibilities are endless there and I think it would allow me to offer so much more to my families.

Fun facts:

-I am a huge animal lover. I’ve been known to help random dogs on the side of the road and run after lost dogs. I even took a stray dog home from a restaurant as a child.  She turned into our sweet family dog!

-There is always music on at our house. Always. And you never quite know what’s going to be playing… Avett Brothers, Sting, Beastie Boys.. have any suggestions?

-I am horrible at taking selfies. Really… Yes, the irony is hilarious.
