Meet Megan Nicole Photography!

Tell us a little about yourself!

Hello, I’m Megan – the owner of Megan Nicole Photography. I am a photographer in Indianapolis, IN. You may also recognize me as your Customer Success Specialist who helps answer all of your questions about Iris. I’m a born and raised Hoosier. I went to college to become a social worker, then spent 5-6 years in that field before I finally realized that it wasn’t what truly sparked joy for me. Photography is what kept calling my name. I still have a social worker/helper’s heart though – which is how I landed at Iris as a customer success specialist. I love tacos, car karaoke, and using GIF reactions (it’s my second language).

What do you specialize in? What made you want to focus on that specialty/specialties?

I specialize in maternity, newborn, milestone, and family photography. While I did some of these before I started making a family of my own – after I had my daughter I knew how special and important it is to capture those early days of a newborn and the connections in families.

How did you first get started in photography?

I started photography back in high school (a little crazy to think that was 10 years ago) with my little point and shoot Sony cybershot camera. My parents gifted me a DSLR for graduation and then I just started doing sessions for my friends, dabbled in some weddings and then families/newborns, and the rest is history from there. I was hooked!

How has using Iris impacted your business?

I have been using Iris for over a year now. I loved it so much that just 5 months after I started using it I began working for Iris when the opportunity arose. Iris has helped me become more organized and professional with the “business” side of photography. I noticed that I was quickly earning more thanks to the online invoicing, but the biggest impact has been how much time it saves me! Two of my favorite features are the workflows and online booking, which certainly seem to go hand in hand.

What are your future goals for your business? What are you looking forward to?

I hope to continue to grow my photography skills, continue to get better at the business side of photography and make more money (who wouldn’t want that, right?). Eventually, I would love to mentor others some day…because I just love helping people and truly believe in community over competition.

If you could go back to when you first started in photography, what advice would you give yourself?

Stop doubting yourself and give yourself some grace. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Learning photography and understanding the ins and outs of running a business takes time – and it’s okay to make mistakes along the way because that’s how you learn.
