Renee Walston, Tell us a little about yourself!
Hello! My name is Renee Walston, and I’m a photographer based out of Plymouth, MA. I capture maternity, newborn, baby, and beach portraits for families all over the metro-Boston area. My husband and I have been married for twelve years and am a mother of three to Brady, Benjamin, and Adeline. I grew up in New Hampshire near Lake Winnipesaukee before moving to North Carolina for the first seven years of my marriage. While I loved the living in the south, I’m very happy to call New England home again.
What do you specialize in? What made you want to focus on that specialty/specialties?
My speciality is newborn portraiture. Is there anything better than a sweet, snuggly baby? I love the opportunity to capture my client’s maternity portraits and then watch as they enter the world of parenthood. My husband and I had our share of fertility struggles, and I truly see every newborn as a tiny miracle. It is such a privilege to document this special time for my clients. Earlier this year, I began offering personalized mentoring sessions for other photographers who also wish to learn the art of maternity and newborn posing through my sister brand – Nestled Workshops.
How did you first get started in photography?
When I was a little girl, I used to save up my allowance to purchase and develop film. I’ve loved photography for as long as I can remember. The first year we were married, I asked my husband if I could return the diamond earrings he purchased for me at Christmas so I could buy my first digital camera. After my second son was born, I knew I wanted to leave my corporate job to focus more on my family. I spent two years making props for other newborn photographers, learning more about the industry, and saving my pennies so I could get my business of the ground. Over the past three and half years, I have seen my business grow from operating out of my dining room into a beautiful 1,600 square foot commercial space. It’s been quite the adventure!
Fun facts:
1. I love women’s college basketball! Go UConn Huskies! I may or may not have had a picture of Geno Auriemma on my nightstand when I was growing up.
2. Dark chocolate, coffee, and the beach make me happy.
3. I have an unhealthy obsession with Joanna Gaines and all things coastal farmhouse.
