Attracting Your Ideal Client

If you are someone who struggles with getting clients to pay your prices and value your work, it might be because you aren’t attracting your ideal client yet! Here are our tips for figuring our your ideal client and getting them in the door.

1. Imagine Your Ideal Client

Before you can market to bring in clients more aligned with your brand, you need to figure WHO they are. Sit down and imagine who this person is. How old are they? Are they married or single? Do they have kids? What type of job do they have? Where do they live? What are their values? Their interests? What kind of clothes do they wear? Their favorite places to get dinner? What’s their favorite social media site? Once you zero in on the type of client you’re trying to reach, you’ll be able to build a better marketing plan.

2. Know Your Value

What can you offer that will be of value to your clients? Is it the experience of the session? Do they love heirloom albums? Canvases? Trendy ways to display images? Figure out what it is that will bring your ideal client the most value, and then you market that to them.

3. Branding

Make sure that your branding resonates with your ideal client. And no, branding is not just your logo. It’s everything that you communicate to your client through your website, images, ads, social media presence, etc.

4. Reaching Your Clients

Since you’ve already thought through your ideal clients, you’ll know have a good idea of how to find them. Meeting face to face is one of the best ways to make an impact. Compile a list of networking opportunities whether that’s conferences you can attend, groups you can join, etc. Make an effort to attend as many as you can until you get a strong client base. You can also cross promote with businesses that your ideal client would frequent. If you are a senior photographer, find a local clothing boutique. If you photograph newborns, find a clothing store or OBGYN office to team up with. The worst thing that can happen is you try and it doesn’t work. Always stay open minded!

5. Social Media

Be present on social media, post consistently and respond to people who interact with your page. Post content that can be shared and reach new people. Facebook Ads offer customization so that you can target a specific type of person or friends of people of your page. Be sure to have a clear call to action on your page so that potential clients know how to book you.

6. Start a Referral System

Once you’ve reached a few of your ideal clients, create a referral system that will give back to them. Offer a print credit, a dollar amount off per session for each referral (so you’ll be getting new clients AND return clients), a little thank you gift, etc. Put yourself in your client’s shoes and think about what type of incentive you would want.

Have you thought about your ideal client? What are some ways you’ve been able to reach them?
